New Appointments Focus on Online Casinos
Following the United Kingdom’s new approach toward online casinos, the Gambling Commission has announced a host of new appointments for 2006. Taking over the role previously held by the Gambling Board, the Commission is preparing for a busy year ahead in preparation for regulating online casinos in the United Kingdom by the end of 2007. The Commission will also be tasked with issuing licenses to online casinos and overseeing new codes of conduct and fair practice.
The Commission has been awarded significant legal rights by the UK government, and the organization’s new appointments reflect its commitment to providing safe and responsible gambling for casino players at online casinos in Britain. Among the new appointments is a new Director of Corporate Services, responsible for overseeing the Human Resources, Finance and IT departments. The incumbent of a new role known as Head of Enforcement will be tasked with establishing a team to address issues of illegal gambling at online casinos. A new head of Human Resources will be responsible for boosting staff levels to 250 across the UK. Lastly, the Director of Licensing and Compliance will be responsible for the licensing of all UK online casinos.
The Gambling Commission’s chief executive Jenny Williams stated that 2006 is an exciting time for the organization, and added that goals for the New Year include the development and implementation of policies toward online casinos under the Gambling Act 2005, the establishment of a new center situated in Birmingham, and the recruitment of professional staff. Williams has also said that the Gambling Commission is fully committed to fully licensing and regulating online casinos by 2007.
