Marikina City Online Casino Gaming Debated
It seems that the US isn’t the only country dealing with changes concerning the online casino industry. Recently, a story about online casino gambling was reported out of the Philippines. In the city of Marikina, Mayor Maridas Fernando, has been put on the spot to end the rampant online casinos gaming on the Internet. This is concerning an operation in a building owned by a local official.
‘We’re appealing to the office of the good mayor to order a probe on the alleged proliferation of this Internet online gambling here in our city. If not immediately stopped, this will lure our children to gambling rather than go to school,’ said a concerned parent. He pleaded, confidentially, for fear of reprisal. Allegedly, one of the online casino sites was operated by someone on the second floor of a local bar and restaurant. The building that housed the Internet online casino gaming was believed to be owned by city Councilor Ferdie Marco.
Ironically, Marco was one of the city dads who introduced and supported Ordinance 044 series of 2006 to regulate the business of computer rental shops, Internet cafés, and computer gaming facilities. The regulation also required owners or Internet operators to post warning signs that would prohibit online casino gaming. According to Business Permit and Licensing Office Chief Apolonio Santos, operating an Internet café also required a permit from the city administrator and Office of the Mayor. Online casino gambling operations are claimed to be sprouting in establishments along other local streets in the city.
