Russia Advances towards Online Casino Restrictions
Things in Russia are not very bright for online casino industry. President Vladimir Putin has proposed a new gambling system for the country and the parliament of Russia, the State Duma, has passed a bill that redefines what is legal in the country. According to the new bill, Russia will be partitioned into four gambling zones, and online gambling will be banned. That's right; only land-based gambling operations will be permitted, and online casino sites will not be considered legal in Russia. If President Putin signs the new bill into law, things will become very bad for online casino lovers in Russia.
Starting July 1st, 2007, all businesses that fail to comply with the new online casino legislation will be shut down and closed. This means that the online casino industry in Russia most workout a solution before that time. Land-based casinos will also suffer, and the different zones will restrict their operations considerably. The new bill is causing much commotion in the gambling community in Russia, and its implications are being analyzed. It seems that although Europe is going in one direction regarding online casino gambling, Russia is going the wrong way.
It seems as the Russian government wants to support the land-based gambling industry, and therefore restricts online casino gambling. Once most of Europe adopts the online casino community, and profits start pouring in, maybe the Russian politicians will realize that they are betting on the wrong horse. Currently, the bill has not been enacted and the online casino industry still has a small frame to influence the Russian President. Hopefully, change will be made soon and the industry will be able to offer gambling to the Russian public.
