This week Israeli police have opened a large investigation regarding the recent operation of 65 online casino sites inside the country. The officer that is stated on this investigation is Yohanan Danino. He and his staff are working closely with the attorney’s office. The investigation is on the illegality of those 65 online casino facilities. Online casinos of any kind are illegal in Israel. It so happens that the owners of some of the largest global online casinos are Israeli businessmen.
The illegality is a major issue concerning online casino sites. The US took a now much discussed side on the issue of legalization of online casinos, namely banning them. The regulation process in Britain, Costa Rica and Canada is the other pole. The Israeli online casino industry is somewhat in between as there is no proper law that deals with the subject. The law that is enforced in Israel only refers to brick and mortar casinos and traditional gambling. Online casino sites are not mentioned, so Israeli authorities and police do nothing about it – for better or worse.
The Israeli businessmen that rule the top three online casino companies in the US have lost quite a lot of money due to the law. They want to reverse the effect in the Israeli industry. They are operating a large lobby in the Israeli parliament for the online casino industry, but it is not yet to know where the wind will blow.
